Beef stew with mushrooms and sourcream. One of the most favourite retro Hungarian recipes.

Stew ingredients

serves 4
  • 600g beef (cut into strips)
  • 1 medium onion
  • 100g smoked bacon
  • 1tsp tomato purée
  • 3cloves garlic
  • 1tsp flour
  • 0.5 tsp marjoram
  • 2tbsp sour cream
  • 6 medium heads mushroom
  • salt, pepper, parsley


Step 1

On bit of oil fry the bacond and the tomato purée.

Step 2

Add the finely chopped onion, minced garlic.

Step 3

Add the beef cut into strips.

Step 4

Season with salt and pepper.

Step 5

Once the meat is tender, add the mushroom.

Step 6

Mix the flour with the sour cream and slowly add to the meat.

Step 7

Serve with some parsley on top.
